Uh-oh!

So we realized last night about 7 p.m. that we forgot to order electric and water services at the new house. We take ownership this coming Tuesday! I was out running errands, so I immediately stopped and looked up Texas Power on my phone. Thank goodness they were still open until 8:30 p.m.! How lucky was I!? So I got the order placed, but the best they can do is July 10 (Thursday). I guess we'll just have to clean in the dark, without A/C. That is if the water gets turned on by then. I just filled out the application right now and will fax it later. Of course everyone is closed today, so that won't even get processed until Monday!

I blame my forgetfulness on my new schedule! That and the holiday. It was just July 1 yesterday, right? Of course, Scott could have remembered also, but did he either? No. We're both a little mindless right now.

Time is getting away from me! And it will be our 2-yr anniversary on Tuesday also. I don't think we're even going to dinner since we will have just spent so much money closing on a house!

Hurry up and wait

Well, closing is indeed July 8, financing is done, insurance almost chosen, we have 8 boxes packed, the fridge is ordered and scheduled for delivery July 13 (bought with no tax on that Energy Star weekend), and the lawnmower was found and purchased (at a steal - thank you closeouts). Now it is just sort of hurry up and wait. This weekend we were kind of bored when we ran out of boxes to pack into.

This is my last week in the lab, and teacher training starts Monday. I will be rudely awakened at 5 a.m. for 7-8 weeks, so I can catch the train in time to be there by 7:30, but it will save a TON of money in gas. The job fair was this past weekend. I interviewed with several schools, but I'm still waiting on a secured position. One school really seemed to like me. It would be considered a rough school, but the department head seems to really know what he's doing, he also went through the AC program so I would get a lot of support and encouragement from him, and Scott and I could ride to work together every day (more gas savings). I hope someone calls soon.

That's a quick update.

We got it!

Yes, they accepted our offer on the house! We are so excited. Now onto all the paperwork. We're pre-approved though, so it shouldn't be a big deal. I've always wondered what the street name would be for the first house I own. Now I know.

It's a 3 bed/2 bath with a converted garage which will be our media room. Scott is excited about that. We'll have to scrounge up some couches though. I never thought I would have 2 living areas in my first house so I gave away my couch. It has a separate dining area which showed to be rare for this neighborhood, so yay! It could use some more kitchen cabinets, but I'll manage. The bedrooms are all great size - 17x12, 14x10 and 12x12 - and they all have very spacious closets, also rare in this neighborhood. It does come with a shed since there isn't a garage, and an awesome covered patio with tons of character. Over time, we hope to build a carport.

Going back on my word

In one of my most recent posts I said I wasn't going to spend the eco stimulus rebate that the government just gave us. Well, I'm about to go put down earnest money for a house that we put an offer on last night. Yes, that's right, we might buy a house!! I think we'll hear back this morning about that also. The owners aren't out yet, so we are flexible on closing. We have to give 2 months notice at the apartment anyway. But we did suggest a tentative date for July 8, our anniversary. Now wouldn't that be cool!!

And yes, I got a spot in the teacher training program for this summer. It starts June 16, and I'll be in the classroom in the Fall. Don't know what school yet.

So there's some good news!

-Next up, Wallace is in training school now and doing well.
-Becca and Jonathan came up for a visit last weekend with the baby and we had a great time. She spent her money on a new laptop since she will be quitting the job at the school.
-We're headed to Austin sometime this weekend to see the family. It feels like it's been way too long. Don't know even when we're leaving yet.
-We might go buy a lawn mower tonight if the offer is accepted. They're on sale right now. We can always take it back if the deal falls through. Yay, a lawn mower! Have I mentioned how much I enjoy mowing the yard?

That's all for now.
